Rebecca's Experience

Leading up to the birth of our gorgeous son Jock, I experienced many years of great fear at the very concept of giving birth. Once pregnant, I realised that I could approach the many months of my pregnancy (and of course the birth itself!) in one of two ways - full of trepidation and anxiety or with courage and some sense of control. I chose the latter and selected hypnobirthing as my vehicle to achieve what I most wanted - a calm birthing experience. I was also conscious that it wasn't just about me and I wanted some practical tools that my husband, David , could use to help me throughout my labour. It was important to both of us that he was a integral part of bringing our children into the world.

Jock's birth went as well as could have been expected, the midwife in attendance was most impressed at how relaxed I was. Dave actually said he found the majority of my labour to be "boring"! Jock did end up requiring some assistance at the end of the labour - he was a big boy and had positioned himself posteriorly in my pelvis. In many countries around the world this could have meant disaster for both mother and child - but Australians are incredibly lucky to have the standard of medical care that we do! Jock, David and I met safely and joyously. There is no doubt to me that the skills learnt from hypnobirthing practice were of an outstanding help.

For my second pregnancy, I refreshed my skills with Noble Birth. Holly's birth was such a wonderful experience, and the ease and speed of her arrival surprised all of those in attendance. My best friend - a very experienced midwife - stayed with us throughout the labour and birth. This was the first time she had seen a woman use Hypnobirthing techniques and she could not believe how different a woman's experience of labour could be!

Holly's birth was an exhilarating, empowering, amazing moment, drug and intervention free. I actually joked that I was waiting for the hard work to begin.....it just never did.

It is my wish to share the skills and techniques of a fearless, joyful welcome for as many babies and their willing parents as I can touch in my lifetime.
